Renaissance has had a long history spanning close to 50 years since its formation in 1969. With several personnel changes in the beginning years, the sound of the group eventually matured into a unique blending of folk, rock, and classical music including the integration of a full symphonic orchestra. Crowning all of this was the sound of the equally unique five-octave voice of Annie Haslam. During their great success in the 70’s the band toured extensively throughout the world in support of their numerous album releases. Highlights of this era included three sold out concerts at Carnegie Hall with The New York Philharmonic Orchestra and a sold-out concert at The Royal Albert Hall with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Chorale Society, all of which were recorded and released as ‘Live’ albums.

The woman whose crystal clear, high-flying soprano vocals earned her worldwide attention as the lead singer of the English classical rock band ‘Renaissance’ has recently achieved an entirely new level of appreciation as an ‘Intuitive’ painter. Annie is able to ‘tune’ into people, animals, situations, feelings and places, and portray them in her own unique style.

On canvas, Annie Haslam’s unmistakable world of sound is taken into unique vistas of color and vibration, not unlike the flow of her five-octave voice. Transporting the viewer to other worlds and through inner boundaries is her goal, bringing healing, serenity and peace through her work.

The DVD was filmed in October of 2017 and included for the first time the addition of The Renaissance Chamber Orchestra, a hand-picked group of 10 musicians, including strings, woodwind, brass and percussion. 

For this new DVD the band returned to the Keswick Theatre, this time employing the use of track and boom mounted cameras to create more up close and personal shots of the band and orchestra. The concert also featured large screen projections of original paintings by Annie Haslam, with corresponding titles to each song performed throughout the concert.

At 15 Sonja Kristina was studying drama whilst sharing billing with such luminaries as Sandy Denny, Al Stewart and Buffy Saint Marie.

Sonja, a barefoot hippie wild-child whose friends in the late ‘60s were radical revolutionaries, Hells Angels, writers and poets, and celebrated musicians, played Chrissie in the Original London Cast of Hair in 1968. In 1970 Sonja Kristina became the voice of Curved Air.

Curved Air soon became renowned for their virtuosity and thrilling shows. Their albums were top 20 best sellers, as was the hit single Back Street Luv. The influential original members were electric violinist Darryl Way, electronica pioneer and guitarist/ keyboard player, Francis Monkman and drummer Florian Pilkington- Miksa. From 1970 to the present-day Sonja Kristina has been the one constant member of Curved Air.

In 1973, 17-year-old Eddie Jobson (Roxy Music / UK/ Frank Zappa) replaced both Monkman and Way during the ‘Air Cut’ era. In 1974 -76 Stewart Copeland came straight from college to critical acclaim as Curved Air’s drummer. At the end of ’76 Curved Air broke up and Sonja had a ringside seat at the birth of Punk and the astronomic rise of Stewart’s band ‘The Police’, during Sonja and Stewart’s 16-year relationship.

By1989 Sonja Kristina re-invented folk rock with a fiery brand of music she dubbed Acid Folk. Curved Air’s violinist Paul Sax and Keyboard player Robert Norton toured with Sonja Kristina’s Acid Folk Band until 1996, playing Glastonbury and other festivals year after year.

Since 2000 Sonja has been working with Composer/Producer/ Cellist/Violinist Marvin Ayres, known for his unique manipulation of sound textures and audio-visual installations. They have two releases as MASK. “Heavy Petal, the Tene-brous Odyssey of Jack and Virginia’ and ‘Technopia’.

Marvin Ayres produced the 2012 Curved Air ‘Live Atmosphere’ CD.

John Lodge is the bass guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for the iconic rock band, The Moody Blues. Songwriter of such mega Moody Blues hits “Ride My See-Saw”, “I’m Just A Singer (In A Rock and Roll Band)”, “Isn’t Life Strange?” and many more.  Lodge has been performing and recording with The Moody Blues for more than five decades, selling more than 70 million albums. 

Lodge has been voted one of the “10 most influential bass players on the planet,” and has been the recipient of many awards, including ASCAP (American Society of Composers and Publishers), and Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, and inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, to name just a few. The Moody Blues have released 15 studio albums and countless compilations, and John has also released three solo albums; NATURAL AVENUE in 1977, 10,000 LIGHT YEARS AGO in 2015, and his current LIVE FROM BIRMINGHAM, THE 10,000 LIGHT YEARS TOUR.  He also released the duo album BLUE JAYS in 1975 with Justin Hayward, and they were voted the Top Duo for that year.

2017 saw the 50^th Anniversary of the Moody Blues album DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, and to celebrate, John and the Moody Blues embarked on a very special tour that included a complete performance of this iconic and groundbreaking album, the tour continued in January 2018 with the fourth Moody Blues Cruise, dates in the USA and finishing with a residence at the Wynn, Las Vegas.  This celebratory concert ‘Days of Future Passed, Live’ was filmed in Toronto and is also currently being shown on PBS as part of their GREAT PERFORMANCES programme, and has now been released as a DVD, reaching the top of the US DVD charts.

On April 14^th, 2019 the Moody Blues were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the ‘Class of 2018’.

Joe Deninzon has been hailed by critics as “The Jimi Hendrix of the Violin,” because of his innovative style on the “Viper” electric sevenstring electric violin. Joe has worked with Sheryl Crow, Bruce Springsteen, Phoebe Snow, Everclear, Ritchie Blackmore, Alex Skolnick, Smokey Robinson, Les Paul, Peter Criss from KISS, Renaissance, and as a soloist with Jazz at Lincoln Center and the New York City Ballet.

Joe is the lead singer and violinist for the progressive rock band, Stratospheerius (www.stratospheerius.com), which has recently released their fifth CD entitled GUILTY OF INNOCENCE on Melodic Revolution Records.

Joe Deninzon can be heard on over a hundred CD’s and jingles as a violinist and string arranger. A BMI Jazz Composer’s Grant recipient and winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, he has written a solo piece for violinist Rachel

Barton Pine, and in 2015, premiered his “Concerto for Electric Violin and Orchestra” with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra.

Joe’s original music has been featured on CMT, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, National Geographic, the Travel Channel, the History Channel, and the Will Ferrell/ Adam McKay- produced film “Virginity Hit.” He also co-wrote the score for the independent film, “What’s Up Scarlet” (Open City Films). Joe is also a member of the Sweet Plantain String Quartet www.sweetplantain.com), which combines Latin Jazz with hip-hop and Classical music, and has toured throughout Europe and the U.S. Joe has also released a CD with his Acoustic Jazz Trio, titled “Exuberance.”

As an educator, Joe has taught at Mark O’Connor’s String Camp and Mark Wood’s Rock Orchestra Camp, and makes annual appearances performing at the Grand Canyon Music Festival with renowned harmonica virtuoso Robert Bonfiglio. In 2006, Joe co-founded the Grand Canyon School of Rock, an annual music program for local high school students. He regularly travels as a clinician and has contributed articles to Strings, Downbeat, American String Teachers

Journal, and Making Music Magazine. In 2012, Joe wrote a book on electric violin techniques Mel Bay Publications, titled “Plugging In.”
