Born 1962, Frank Van Bogaert started his music career at the age of 18 with the founding of Belgian New Wave band 1000 Ohm.
In 1981 1000 Ohm scored a big international hit “A.G.N.E.S.”, today still a much-aired New Wave evergreen.
By the end of the 80’s and the beginning of the 90’s Frank had also become a much in demand composer of radio commercial tunes and TV series music.

This is also the time when he bought Antwerp based ACE Studio.
His management and producer skills quickly catapulted the ACE Studio from a moderate studio to one of the most reputed and busiest studios in the country.  Even today, in these troubled economic times, ACE still stands strong as one of the few top of the range studio’s the country still has left. From mid-90’s on, Frank also began to release Electronic/Cinematic music under his own name.
The last decade Frank has been specializing in producing rock music with a preference to Progressive rock, a music style he grew up with and has great affection for.
FISH ON FRIDAY
For those with nostalgic feelings about that warm 1000 Ohm vocal sound, it’s back, just listen to Fish on Friday’s albums.
Black Rain is Fish on Friday’s fifth and arguably strongest album up to date. As usual the production is flawless, and the songs and arrangements are well thought-out. The band, featuring Nick Beggs, Frank Van Bogaert, Marty Townsend and Marcus Weymaere, sounds tighter and punchier than ever before.
As a response to the positive reactions to Lula Beggs' vocal contributions to Fish on Friday’s previous album "Quiet Life", Lula was given a bigger guest role, now appearing on four of the eleven tracks on the album.

THE GROUP WITH PRODUCER ALAN PARSONS
AND PINK FLOYD DRUMMER NICK MASON

Black Rain, comes close (it isn't entirely) to being a concept album about the fast changing, (for some way too fast), world we live in...Our changing environment, refugees fleeing from war and global political madness. Although the album certainly has its dark sides, there is also room for sun and happiness.
As always with Fish on Friday’s artwork, the album is packaged in a beautiful 6-panel digipack with a 16 page booklet designed by Michal Karcz, which truly compliments the music to make every aspect of Black Rain a true work of art and an album for our times.

BOOK REVIEW
-By Literary Titan (5) STARS

The Rock Star Chronicles, by Ray Shasho, is a splendid book written by a music enthusiast who has poured their heart and soul into it. It’s a story of a boy who loved rock music, and his obsessive passion of it earned himself the name Rock Raymond. He went to school but instead was schooled in all matters of music while his peers were buried chin-deep in coursework. He then became a radio DJ and has now compiled a book on all interviews he held with Rock gods who raided the airwaves back in the 70s and 80s. It’s a compilation of interviews with outstanding vocalists, legendary guitarists and crazy drummers in the rock music scene. Each interview gives a reader an in-depth view into their personal lives and the philosophies that guide their lives which all serve to humanize these great icons. For readers who are old enough to call themselves baby boomers this book will bring old memories back to life. Millennials, on the other hand, may think of this book as a literal work of the Carpool Karaoke show.
The Rock Star Chronicles is a book I didn’t know I was waiting for. To come across a book that will talk me into trying something new. One brave enough to incite me to venture into new frontiers. This book made me a believer- I am now a bona fide Rock and Roll music fan.
Ray Shasho masterfully gets the interviewees talking. He smartly coaxes answers from them with crafty questions designed to get a story rolling out of them. The artists talk about diverse issues ranging from music, politics, and their social engagements. Having been on the music seen all his life, Ray Shasho knows the buttons to press, how to get them comfortable about talking about their lives.
The book’s cover is befitting of its subject matter with the leather look offering a royal background to the golden letter print. It speaks to how high a level rock music holds in the pecking order- arguably, modern music as we know it has originated from blues and rock music.  The second noteworthy thing is the use of high definition pictures to reference the musician being interviewed in every sub-chapter. This ensures that the book is for both original rock and roll lovers and aspiring new ones. Together is makes for a refreshing and consistently enjoyable read.
I recommend this book to rock music enthusiasts, aspiring musicians wondering what it takes and all readers curious to learn new things by going back in time.

Author Interview - Ray Shasho
by Literary Titan

The Rock Star Chronicles uses your interviews with rock legends to humanize them and preserve their contribution to the genre. Why was this an important book for you to write?

I was fortunate to have lived through two of the greatest decades for music. It was a time when radio played incredible music and rock concerts were a bargain and a happening thing to do. Rock groups featured incredibly talented musicians with guitarists and lead singers in the spotlight. There has never been a generation to match that period of music expertise and staying power. I wanted the reader to understand and realize how great a talent they really were and still are. Especially to wannabe musicians and the young. Many of the artists I have interviewed have passed on and others nearing retirement. It was important to me to tell their stories at a vulnerable period in their lives and be recognized as the greatest music legends the world will ever know.

What is one interview in this book that stands out as the most exciting one you had?

Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull has always been a rock hero to me. He has written and performed complex music and always had an incredible stage presence. Going to a Tull concert back in the day was a huge event. I will admit the first time I interviewed Ian Anderson I was quite nervous. I remember when the phone rang for the interview, I thought, that’s Jethro Tull calling me! During the second interview I got him to chat about politics, religion, ancestry, and world events. I tried not to ask the same mundane music questions that have been asked of him many hundreds of times. He was intellectual and I was on my best game that day.

What do you think is one thing modern musicians have to learn from the icons of the rock and roll genre?

Bands must perform live. All the legends started performing at school dances, bars, clubs, and anywhere they could be seen by an audience big or small. If they are talented eventually someone will give them a break, but it will not be easy. Having a You Tube video with a lot of page views is a start, but it will never have the impact of playing in front of live audiences.

What do you find is a common misconception people have about music?

People that pay big money to watch an artist lip sync on stage and still call it a great show. Music lovers who go see a legendary rock band and there are no original members in the band. Ringo Starr would never bill himself as The Beatles, instead he created an All-Starr band. All generations need to do a little homework before purchasing expensive tickets to concerts nowadays. My book will certainly help identify who the real legends are.

The Tangent is a Progressive Rock Band from Northern England, based around keyboards player, composer and idiosyncratic vocalist Andy Tillison Diskdrive.
Their music is cinematic and lyrical, full of narrative, often telling stories or making observations about the world we live in - often choosing subject matter more associated with Anarcho-Punk bands than with the genre in which the band choose to base themselves. "No Hobbits or Orcs in our songs" The band have released a steady output of well-regarded albums through their record label Inside Out Music.
The band has changed personnel many times and has used this fluidity to keep ideas fresh and lucid. The debut album released in 2003 The Music that Died Alone was often referred to as a "supergroup" project, though Tillison has always eschewed this title, preferring to go for the less obvious "a good idea".

In twelve years, the group has had close affiliations with Swedish progressive legends The Flower Kings, and Jonas Reingold (bass) from that band remains in the Tangent to this day despite the departure of Roine Stolt from the Tangent ten years ago now. David Jackson (Van Der Graaf Generator) was heavily featured on that debut album, Jakko Jakszyk (now of King Crimson) has been a frequent collaborator along with Theo Travis (Steven Wilson Band, Soft Machine Legacy, Gong etc.). Guy Manning, Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), David Longdon (Big Big Train) have all played key roles in the band's development and the band was instrumental in bringing the talents of the astonishing young guitarist Luke Machin (Maschine) to the world for the first time.

Tangent philosophy has been to embrace other more contemporary bands. Whether overtly progressive themselves (Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Argos, Magenta etc.) or completely away from the official boundaries of the genre into metal, Jazz, modern pop, soul, disco and film music, the Tangent do not follow the prog rock rule book.
"It's more what we don't do that sets us apart" Tillison said in a 2007 interview... "we've always avoided doing the 12 string acoustic stuff, and in fact anything that gets too Genesissy or Floyd-like usually (not always) gets binned.. that's not to say that there aren't influences.. just that we don't like the idea of being confined to the styles of those particular figureheads. The spirit of progressive rock music was carried by lots more people than Genesis. I think that too many of us (new bands) use the obvious source - i.e. the 70s bands and forget to look around us and see what our contemporaries are up to!"

Over the years the band has had many manifestos, all of which are still relevant to the future of the Tangent..
Andy Tillerson’s progressive bands have been "A New Opera" 1978 - 1986, "Gold Frankincense & Diskdrive" 1987 - 1995, Po90 (Parallel Or 90 Degrees) 1996 - 2010 and The Tangent 2002 - the present. With over 20 albums released out there - Andy has been one of the most committed and unrelenting advocates of Progressive Music through its darkest days.

CELEBRATING 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
with reunion, new double album & worldwide tour
EXCLUSIVE

We put the old band back together to CELEBRATE the 50th ANNIVERSARY of NEKTAR!

Nektar: The Legendary Rock Band are recording a new album! This is the first new studio album made in the United States since 1977!!
We put the old band back together to CELEBRATE the 50th ANNIVERSARY of NEKTAR!

The original members of Nektar; Derek “Mo” Moore, Ron Howden, and Mick Brockett are back. We’ve added Ryche Chlanda from Fireballet and the 78′ band, Randy Dembo from the 2005 band, and newcomer and world-class keyboard player, Kendall Scott.
The music for our new album “The Other Side” comes from the 1978 era when we were writing in Mo’s basement in Chatham, New Jersey. This music was put on pause for the last 40 YEARS and it’s now time to release it with new input and fresh ideas. The music is growing exponentially as we continue rehearsing and writing and letting it take us to new heights.

Nektar has started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the recording of the new album!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nektarmusic/nektars-new-studio-album-the-other-side
Nektar's contribution over the last 49 years has quite rightly earned them their place in any 'Progressive Rock Hall of Fame'. But the band is much more than a 'Prog Legend', the Nektar brand of innovative composition, performance and visuals is simply unique.
Nektar's history appeared to have been written when they finally split in the early eighties. Despite attempts to re-kindle the flame, the Nektar light, it seemed, was out . . . . until that is, the year 2000.
The new millennium saw the long-awaited reunion tour of the classic line up, to rave reviews and fantastic receptions. The light we thought was out, had in fact been kept aglow - by loyal fans across the globe.

Sixteen years on and the family has grown a little, but the classic Nektar spirit is still very much alive, building on the band's rediscovered popularity. The Nektar family is determined to continue bringing Nektar music to you around the world.
